About WJP Compliance

WJP Compliance is a specialist FCA compliance consultancy focused on investment managers that need senior-level expertise without the overhead of a full in‑house team. Led by Chartered Fellow of the CISI, Will Palmer, the firm combines more than 20 years of frontline experience with a practical, business‑aware approach to regulation.

Why us

WJP Compliance was founded to solve a problem many investment managers recognise: generic compliance advice that looks good on paper but does not fit how their business actually runs. After years holding accountable roles under the FCA regime, Will saw how often frameworks were over‑engineered, under‑used, and disconnected from day‑to‑day decision‑making. WJP Compliance was created to offer something different - support shaped by real SMF16/17 experience and grounded in the realities of supervising portfolios, people, and processes.

The firm is led by Principal Consultant Will Palmer, a Chartered Fellow of the CISI with over 20 years in financial services compliance. You can read more about Will's detailed background, qualifications, and career history on our Meet the Team page.

How we work

Every engagement starts with a conversation about your permissions, business model, client base, and current pain points rather than a pre‑set checklist. From there, support is tailored, whether that means:

  • Ad hoc advisory input on compliance questions

  • A retained compliance officer mandate (SMF16/17 or equivalent)

  • Project‑based work (such as authorisation, gap analysis or Consumer Duty remediation)

  • Interim SMF16/17 cover during transitions

The aim is always the same: to put in place arrangements that are defensible to the FCA and genuinely usable for your team.

Who we work with

WJP Compliance primarily supports FCA‑regulated investment managers, including discretionary managers, UCITS fund managers and related firms operating under increasing regulatory scrutiny. Typical clients want to strengthen governance, prepare for supervisory attention, or secure additional senior compliance capacity without committing to a permanent hire.

What you can expect

Clients can expect clear, direct communication, proportionate documentation, and realistic recommendations that balance regulatory expectations with commercial priorities. WJP Compliance maintains a close watch on the FCA's evolving priorities, such as governance, conduct, financial crime and Consumer Duty, so that support reflects current expectations rather than historic rules of thumb. The outcome is compliance that protects the firm and its senior managers without creating unnecessary complexity.
